Pick Up Yo Feet!

All over Japan you can hear the sound... the sound of people draggin their feet!

In Japan you take off your shoes when entering a home and even some public buildings. Therefore many people wear shoes that are easy to slip on, often sandals. I especially see this at school. When walking to school the students and teachers wear appropriate footwear, from sneakers to dress shoes. Then they change into indoor shoes once inside- and these shoes are only ever worn inside the school. For the students this means a Vans-type slip on. For the teachers this means anything from padded sandals to sneakers to Crocs. All day long you'll hear teachers shuffling around the halls- especially when running. You dont want to kick off a shoe and knock some kid unconscious in your sprint down the hall.

Annnnd... I'm guilty of draggin my feet, too. Hey, everyone is doin it... And it can be kinda slippery in those clean halls... so small, quick, shuffling steps feel safer, right?

Anyways, next time you here someone draggin their haggard feet around, think of me. I'm sending a little bit of Japan to you.
